A Wonderful Meal in the Village of Molleges

After a somewhat disappointing day in Arles, I had probably my all time favorite fine dining experience in France. Mas du Capoun was recommended to us by our innkeeper Francis. It did not disappoint. A Wonderful Meal in the Village of Molleges.

A Wonderful Meal in the Village of Molleges

We arrived about 15 minutes before 7 pm when the restaurant opens for dinner, so we took a quick stroll through the tiny village.

Village of Molleges

The quaint town center has a tiny Hôtel de Ville (city hall) and several charming abodes.

This was my favorite with its double curving staircase. The bottom door was all of 5 feet tall.

In the center of the village stood a monument to the horses of the region. You may remember that I talked about the Camargue HERE.

Now really hungry we headed back to the restaurant.

Mas du Capoun

As the name suggests it is housed in an ancient mas (Provençal farmhouse). There is also an inn and spa at the complex.

We were one of the first to arrive but the restaurant quickly filled up. Reservations are strongly recommended.

The setting is elegant and lovely and they have an extensive wine list.

We opted to have a kir royale (champagne with creme de cassis) as our apéritif. I followed this with just a lovely glass of water with dinner.

Our knowledgeable server discussed the menu with us and I opted for the prix fixée (priced fixed) special of the day. It included an appetizer of a lovely tomato bisque and delicious salmon in pastry.

For the main course, I had sole almandine with white asparagus while my cousin opted for the scallops. Both were fantastic.

We finished with dessert. I had the lemon mousse with raspberry sherbet while my cousin went for a chocolate mousse cake. Chef Michel Roumain is a master. His wonderful wife, Michèle, runs the front. Truly 5 stars for service as well as the food. Unbelievably the meal was just €35 which runs around $47. A truly great deal for this level of dining.

All the service staff is fluent in both French and English. Dogs are also welcome although we did not have any 4 footed visitors the night we were there.
