Returning home from Hawaii I found myself wanting to incorporate a bit of island décor into my living room. But with the 4th of July looming large my patriotic side wanted to show itself off too. I wanted to combine the two styles together to create a happy eclectic mix versus a jumbled mess. A Red, White, and Blue Summertime Living Room.
A Red, White, and Blue Summertime Living Room
Fate intervened when my dear friend Marty and I made plans to go have some lunch. We couldn’t resist popping into HomeGoods and that’s when everything came together.
I first spotted a darling pillow that instantly took me back to Waikiki beach with its warm sand, turquoise blue waters and lovely little sailboats.
After a bit of searching, I found another pillow on an end cap that featured happy little beach cabanas. How lucky was I that both pillows included a big dose of red, white and blue?
I was eager to shop my home to add to the mix and begin creating little vignettes.
The Chinese chest received two palettes approved books, some seashells and a mason jar of flowers. A bit of raffia on the jar reminded me of swaying grass skirts.
Favorite design books were topped with more shells and sweet carnations just like those I received on a floral lei.
A few pillows were stolen from the man cave.
More shells on the side table.
Every room can use a bit of whimsy to keep it from looking too serious. It says “A happy family lives here!”
Although I didn’t change the gallery wall the entry table received a seaside shake-up.
Seashell candles, a few starfish and pearls~ the diamonds of the sea.
Of course, this guy thought it all looked good and repeatedly photobombed the images. He really just wanted to lie on the couch in front of the sunny window. #roastedwiener
It feels like a happy space that will carry us through the long, hot summer.

I'm just catching up on some blog reads, and see that you're back from the islands and I love what you did with your new finds. I never tire of seeing friends' changes to their homes. Loved the dark & mysterious church from Sunday's post also. It seems as though you're keeping quite busy this summer with your travel posts and now working for a couple of clients (that's great)! The locks on the bridge in Paris (!), and the shrimp rolls – it's all good, Laura. Thanks for sharing, and have a great weekend.
