No More Towels On The Bathroom Floor!

Perhaps like many of you my guest bathroom also doubles as my 12 year old son’s bathroom. It’s a situation that strikes fear in the hearts of mothers everywhere. One of the reasons why is that a large percentage of boys are physically unable to hang their bathroom towels up on a towel bar, my son included.

Let me just say that his towels were never draped beautifully over the tub as shown in the image below. They were more likely to end up in a soggy pile on the floor.

Keep reading to see the super solution.

I had come across three cute aqua ceramic and metal hooks on clearance at Anthro ($2.99 each). I have also seen them at Hobby Lobby in off white. (I apologize for the dark images. This bathroom has no window.)

I selected a piece of lumber from our scrap pile. It measured 17 1/2” by 4  1/2”. I didn’t bother to sand it and gave it two coats of Martha Stewart’s “Glass Bottom Boat” which is also the same color used on the bathroom ceiling.  The hooks were easily attached to the board with a pair of screws.

The screws on either end of the board are a bit longer and are also screwed onto the wall into a stud. When you are the mother of a boy, things need to be secure.

At any given time there are only two towels that need to be hung up. A few months ago I spied this fish napkin ring at Kirkland’s and thought it would be perfect to hang on the remaining hook.

Above the towel hooks is a shadowbox I found at Homegoods.

I placed some favorite seaside themed photos in a sepia tone inside and hot glued on a few seashells we have gathered over the years.

The project cost under $10 and I am happy to report that I never find his towels (Target) on the floor anymore. However, the seat being left up is an entirely other matter.

The best part is that we can easily take this latest project with us when we move.

Really lovely! I fear I have to report, though, that there are some teenaged girls who are also unable to hang up towels! They however, seem to transport them to their bedrooms in order to discard them on a hardwood floor in a damp heap…

I am completely impressed! So beautiful, and that blue is perfect! Now,if you could help us manage an idea to deal with the teenage girl disability mentioned above, we would REJOICE! No wood or carpeted floor surface is safe…. 🙂
Hugs, and Happy Monday!(Spring break week here!)

Love the collage and the hooks. I pick up sale knobs and hooks at Anthro every chance I get (but not often, as we don't have the retailer in our town).

The seat is a problem in my household full of boys too Laura! Love your solution – it's so pretty, have to check out those hooks from anthro!

I was just chuckling….they do have a physical impairment about certain things….closing closet doors, toilet seats…clothes making it IN the hamper….

Love it! I've been thinking of taking my towel bar down and using hooks instead. You did a great job!
