So many of you commented on this darling drawer of succulents from the Home Depot Garden Party. I knew you would love it as much as I did! It retails for $25.00.
Although this was a concrete planter (which you could also make by following the guidelines HERE) it did get my mind thinking about what other containers could be used for a succulent garden. As I needed a cute gift for an upcoming party I stopped by the thrift store. I found several planter contenders but selected this little gem priced at just 25 cents.
I did find a similar option online and you could easily screw in a handle to the front of the box.

Succulents need little to no water to thrive depending on what gardening zone you live in. As a safety measure I quickly drilled two small drainage holes on the bottom of the box. This can easily be done on thin metal and plastic containers as well.
Since this was a wood container I did want to line it for a bit of protection. You can use a clear plastic liner but I opted to reuse a shopping bag.
I then quickly planted all of the succulents which were purchased at Home Depot. They ranged in price from $1.98 to $3.98. With my military discount the arrangement came out to around $12.
To lock in moisture you can top the arrangement with tiny pebbles or a bit of moss.
As it grows some of the succulents will need to be transplanted into another container. But I am sure its intended recipient will love it!

Bubble wrap also can make a good liner/base for plants! I found a large white pot by the side of the road, but I didn't want to fill it with rocks and dirt because it would be so heavy – so I used bubble wrap, folded, on the bottom..

Your succulent planter is adorable! I love all the colours. I don't think of them as having such a range of different shades.
The drawer makes a cute container. If a container is large and will be too heavy with rocks, use some of the pieces of styrofoam that come packed in around electronics. They are usually odd shapes but can be easily snapped into smaller pieces and work like rocks to allow the water to drain through.

These are darling Laura! I'm going to get some succulents to put in my kitchen window sill. I've had some tiny ferns and they have been so much fun but they are finally dying from lack of water. They are just too small of pots to keep them wet enough – I don't take the time to water them just a bit every single day so I'm going to go with something that thrives on very little water!

What a lovely gift! I'm sure they will love it! I have such a brown thumb. I love succulents. But I find that they are a little bit of a challenge… I'm not sure what I do wrong. I think I under water them because I think that they are like cactus…. I don't know…. 😛
