A French Footstool Receives a Slipcovered Makeover

Last year there was a furniture store that was going out of business. As soon as I spied this reproduction Louis XVI stool I could not get it paid for fast enough. It was the perfect size for my bathroom vanity. But I didn’t love the polyester upholstery. So, it was time that A French Footstool Receives a Slipcovered Makeover.

This photo is a good actual representation of the pale green damask fabric that it is upholstered in as well as the soft gold finish on the wood.

Slipcovers are such a smart solution. I have had far too many near accidents involving foundation and lipstick and thought it would benefit from a washable slipcover to avoid a permanent stain.

The stool was flipped over onto butcher paper and traced to create a pattern. It was very close to sewing a simple square.

A nice scrap piece of antique French metis sheeting was the perfect fabric. It was leftover from the Bergère chair project.

The extra ballet-style ties were a bit much for Mr. Décor.

Since I share a bathroom with him I merely switched the look to a simple bow.

Love the slipcover on the stool. Your seamstress does a fabulous job! I like both styles of the ties, but if it were mine I'd probably go with the bows.

Hi Laura! What a beautiful stool and I'm so happy you found such a beauty! I love your slipcover both ways. You could take turns with the ties! 🙂
Thanks for popping in to see me and have a great week.
    Be a sweetie,

I think the bows win by a hair…so smart to protect the pretty fabric with the slipcover.

Oh Laura, I LOVE this stool — it's beautiful! I love the curvy, feminine shape, the pale green damask, and the carved details. What a great find!

I think your new slipcover is lovely, and I like either style of the ties. 🙂 I know you'll enjoy it more without worrying about stains.

    Have a great day!

Both looks are great, but if it were just for me, without considering the male half of the family, I'd go for the ballet ties.

I loved it when I saw it, but I think I prefer the second look with the extra long ties, because I can see the fluted legs.

What a fun find! Yes, I can see that in decorating a home, the idea is common ground of what we both like…I'm amazed looking at some of the blogs of such ruffled, shabby chic, fru-fru decorating that a man lives there! Mine wouldn't mind some pink but not the whole shebang!

I think I would go with Mr D on this one, though probably not for the same reasons. lol
I love the soft gentle bows at the top, just peeking out from the cover. They ballet ties are pretty but there are so many straight lines and angles with the pleats and the crossed ties that the curvy bows are easier on the eyes. And the ties are still there so if you change your mind you can lace them up again. 🙂
And with the nice, easy care cover, if you find another spot for your pretty stool after you move and rearrange, you can show off the pretty green fabric.
Good choice! Thanks for sharing your lovely home-decorating ideas. 🙂

How cute! I adore this! It is beautiful, but I love the simplicity of the cover. Great thought about makeup accidents!!! I have a tendency to somehow throw liquid liners across the room.
