On a bright and glorious morning I crossed the Delaware. But it was over this bridge not via a boat. Less drama for sure.
All at once we left Pennsylvania and found ourselves in Lambertville, New Jersey. This is Jersey? Surely not based on what the “Shore” and certain “Housewives” will tell us, but yes, this is beautiful New Jersey. Lambertville is considered the antique capital of New Jersey and I certainly believe it.
The architecture is fabulous.
The period details found in dentil molding and corbels captured my heart.
Red and black scallops and floral abundance.
Brickwork and Mansard roofs were in spectacular.
Indeed I felt as if my head needed to be on a swivel stick as there was SO much goodness to look at.
I walked by this house and loved the combination of the butter yellow brick paired with the soft green shutters.
Upon closer inspection I learned that the home was known as “Marshall House”. As I grew up very close to Sutter’s Fort in Northern California I knew EXACTLY who James Marshall was.
Of course we couldn’t help ourselves and popped in to quite a few shops. Sweet boy as always makes friends wherever he goes. 🙂
Happiness found.
Next door Sweet T and I spied a sign that made our hearts quiver.
Vintage dresses hung sweetly on mannequins placed on swings on the front porch of this repurposed old house.
Inside we found sparkling chandeliers, wood floors and the best collection of vintage clothing and accessories I have EVER seen under one roof.
The displays were ingenious. What was once a New York Times paper stand now holds hats and handbags.
Harlequin patterned shoes and that hat! At that moment I could feel my heart welling up because it made me think of two very special people in my life that really should be seeing this with me. One of course was my friend Jenny…
…The other was my dear heart daughter. My wistful tears turned to laughter as I spied a vignette that sums our relationship up perfectly. I am the floral pumps with the bright turquoise bow. She is the brightly patterned embroidered boots. And yet, somehow, we go together beautifully.
Oh you just can’t beat the detailing on vintage clothing! As we had two hungry boys with us we sadly had to move on.
Just a few steps down was a lovely church.
The Gothic arches and stonework was amazing.
Just look at…ARGH! Photo bombed AGAIN!
Ok, just look at that heavy wood door and spectacular Corinthian columns.
The garden next door was a delight too.
Peaceful happiness.
A grotto dedicated to Mary.
We continued to meander on.
Making a right turn along the banks of the Delaware and Raritan Canal.
Our destination was Lilly’s on the Canal.
We opted to sit outside.
Because this was the view.
Sweet boy slowing slipping his super lemonade.
A truly delicious club sandwich.
All too soon we needed to begin the journey back. We stopped for a snack break but I found a detour next door. A wonderful Art Deco era movie theater.
Inside was an old fashioned ticket booth.
Amazing tile work.
Why even the powder room was charming.
Wouldn’t you agree ladies?
Oh and the snack we stopped for: Rita’s Italian Water Ice and Custard.
The devil himself in a cup.
May your day be covered in sprinkles,
Laura

I'm from Philly and my husband is from “the shore” so we are really familiar with Lambertville and bucks county, Pa. We used to go there a lot before we had kids! I was always in heaven there. Miss it a ton, the midwest's just not the same, you know? Glad you got to enjoy one of my old haunts! Kathleen
