Welcome to Favorite Pin Friday. Two weeks ago my darling and dear bloggy friend Lynne linked up an image that made my heart go pitter pat. This portable potager was created by Linsey of LLH Designs.
I was in the car and heading to the liquor store faster than you could say “High Oh Silver and Away!”
It’s not what you are thinking. I just wanted to beg for or purchase some wood wine boxes.
Six stores later I was defeated. Did you know that most wine makers now ship their wine in cardboard boxes? Boo.
I then turned to Craigslist and found a few crates up for offer. They wanted no less than $20 (or more!) for a single crate. Bah humbug!
Before I went any further I talked with the awesome Mr. Stroll who is Marty’s husband, as well as a xeriscape and garden specialist. He gave me the green light for container gardening in Arizona. The growing season begins here in October. So I am in the process of building my own crates. They won’t have the pretty writing on the side, but I hope that eventually they’ll hold lovely things.
The good news is stores like Target and Wal Mart are clearing out bags of soil and other gardening supplies right now because they are on a different gardening schedule. So back the truck up boys, I’m buying some soil!
(Mr. Décor’s biggest fear. 🙂
I can’t wait to see what has inspired all you adorable pin up girls and guys!

You can link to a post you created or a pinterest URL ( I explained how to do this HERE.)
Yes, it can be your own creation that you have pinned.

Love those garden boxes! Yes, I would be excited about planting season as well! I am jealous that you have a different planting season. I just cleaned out my raised beds, removing the wilted cucumber vines and all-but-dead tomato plants. It wasn't a good summer to garden. I can't wait to see how your project turns out!!!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Sigh, gardening season starting in October. In my neck of the woods we are getting frost and occasionally a bit of snow.
I like your crate idea and they will be so pretty after a season or two as the wood ages. Are you lining the inside so they won't rot from the soil or just replacing as needed?
Can't wait to see how your garden grows as we trudge through the dark dreary days of winter up here.
Hope you have a great weekend! 🙂

Those are gorgeous boxes. I was at Costco the other day and I was able to secure one of these boxes. However, I'm not planting in them. I will do a post about it later. I so love it. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Laura,
These are a darling idea. You could certainly do a graphic on them if you wanted. Can't wait to see yours. 🙂

P.S. we'll be doing some gardening ourselves this weekend.

These garden boxes are really cute! You could add the add the label pretty easily, with a transfer, once they are built. The building part would stump me! ~ Maureen

I love the look of those boxes.
Your post is a good reminder to save my scraps as I build a few items for this redo in my home.

I was able to get a wine box at Goodwill earlier this year. If I remember correctly it was under $3.00 so don't despair! You just need to look outside the box (LOL pun intended ♥). Have a great weekend!

You can get one occassionally at Costco or nicer wine stores for free. I got mine from Costco free. They don't have many that still come in wood crates. Sams also has a few.

After seeing that pin some time ago, I sent my husband to the liquor store to find some. Had the same results. 🙁 I've still got my eye out for them, though!

Laura,
I am preparing for our autumn planting of spring bulbs. I am excited to watch your garden grow! The wine boxes are nice in theory but I doubt they would hold up outdoors between the weather and wood's worse enemy — water. Be sure to use pressure treated wood to protect against rot and insects.
