A Rose By Any Other Name Centerpiece

We currently have a delightful houseguest staying at Décor To Adore manor. I wanted to combine celebrating her birthday and Valentine’s day with one lovely tablescape. An ombre colored rose confection for the centerpiece came to mind. A Rose By Any Other Name Centerpiece.

I purchased 3 dozen roses at Fresh and Easy. They were marked down to $5 each. (Woo hoo!) I also bought a big slab of florist oasis from Hobby Lobby with a coupon. It must be oasis, not green styrofoam.

A pattern was made with a large plate onto the oasis and the piece was quickly cut out with a serrated edged knife.

Voila!

I cut two smaller circles and then held all the pieces in place with two bamboo skewers. After the picture was taken the skewers were cut down to be level with the oasis.

Long ago I worked in a friend’s flower shop for three days before Valentine’s day. Here is what I learned about preparing roses. Fill a sink or large bucket with cool water. Select a good pair of garden or kitchen shears. Cut the stem at an angle UNDER water. Roses which are not cut in this manner will suffer from heads that will droop over in a day or two.

Placing The Blooms

I placed the oasis on a crystal plate and began poking holes in the floral foam then easing the roses into the spot. Each layer of foam received a different colored rose.

Once the basic shape is created fill in the bare spots with additional buds.

The sides of the very bottom layer were covered with a piece of red velvet ribbon.

Oh, it’s just gorgeous! Like a floral birthday cake!

The scent is just heavenly.

Happy hearts!
