My sweet Grandma Jingles (as affectionately called by my children) recently sent me a package. She had decided to move again into an assisted living facility and had to downsize a bit. She thought that I would probably adore and treasure a wee little tea set she played with as a girl.
A wee little tea set
Treasure indeed. These wee cups are over 80 years old.
I adore the sweet bluebird that adorns the dishes.
I am overjoyed that the dishes were well loved and have a few chips and cracks.
Also nestled in the package was this set of small glass dishes. I guessed that they were salt cellars but the larger dish had me wondering. A quick call to granny revealed that this is also a child’s play set. She said her older sister, Edna, had one as a girl and my great-grandmother, Emma, would give them tinned peaches to fill the bowls with.
I love the hobnail texture.
The small picture that I placed within the vignette is of the “Laura” plantation in Louisiana. Which reminds me that I still need to share all of my New Orleans adventures.
Life is just full of treasures. Even with the chips and cracks.

Oh my, Laura, I ADORE this tea set!! What a priceless treasure you have.
I only have a few pieces remaining of my childhood tea set, but I treasure them. I've looked on eBay for years, to see if I could find the similar set so that I could complete what I have, but there were many different china sets made during the 1960's/early 70's when my sisters and I received ours. So, not as unique and antique as the one you have – but equally loved. ♥
Thanks for sharing the memories. 🙂

I don't remember these specific bowls, but I do remember Grandma Edna putting tinned peaches in little bowls for us to eat and play with when we were little.
Before Grandma passed, I worked with her on a book of her life that I gave to the cousins one Christmas. I'd love to send you a copy.

I'm SO glad is school is almost over for you, I know what a rough time it's been. I hope that mean old professor learned something from you this year….that you can go through some rough stuff and still be a gracious, but tenacious! 🙂
I love your little tea set, so sweet and loved. I ADORE what you children called their grandma…Jingles is just the cutest thing! My mother in laws name is Bonnie and when I was pregnant with the 1st grandchild in the family, she told me she wanted to be grandmother. When my son was old enough to talk, he called her grandma rabbit (because he thought her name was bunny, not bonnie) the name has stuck and now all 8 grandkids call her grandma rabbit and she loves it! 🙂
Blessings to you my friend!
Love ya
