Like Sands Through The Plexi Glass

My friend T arrives today. I have been spending the past few days preparing a few things for her visit. One thing that she loves to do is relax in our Roman tub. I thought a container of bath salts would make for a happy invitation. Like Sands Through The Plexi Glass.

I purchased a carton of Epson salt in the pharmacy department of Wal Mart. The shatterproof plexiglass containers were found in the food storage section of the store. I already had the essential oil (purchased at a health food store) and food coloring on hand. I began with a few drops of each added to the salt and mixed well. A little goes a long way.

At first, I thought I would create just one color. But I thought it might be pretty to create three separate colors that matched the palette of our front bathroom. The beach theme brought to mind the sand creations of the ‘70’s that T and I often admired at the carnival when we were children. (Remember those?) I filled the second container with seashells and used the top of the lid as an impromptu soap dish. This gift was created for under $10.00. Imagine how cute this idea would be using Valentine shades!

I will be spending the next few days enjoying my friend. Our plans include seeing Mary Poppins at the ASU Gammage Theater, taking a morning hike up a breathtaking mountain, and celebrating her birthday at the Mardi Gras festivities at Westgate.
We’ll be the crazy women in kooky hats and feather boas. Hope to see you there.

Laura

I have purchased the Epson salts to use as a base for pillar candles in a glass container and used the rest to color as bath salts, but I've never thought to made varying shades. Great idea, and you have presented it in such an attractive way.

Thanks for peaking in at my blog today. Isn't it fun to make gifts for visitors to welcome them into your home for some fun and some R&R. I think the idea of using the multi colors looks so pretty. Now your post on making a banner is such a wonderful idea. When I turned 16 (many moons ago) my Mom and Aunts sewed these and hung them up in the backyard on the clothes line and they looked so pretty. They also made all my friends who came to the party little triangle head scarfs which were all the rage back in the 60s. Thanks for rekindling my memories of family and friends by posting your garland photos. Happy Valentine's day.
