Who here knows about the owl craze? I see them everywhere. I have several tweens and teens in my life that adore owls so I decided to make a few broaches to give as Christmas gifts. Whoooo loves the holiday’s Craft 5.
Whoooo loves the holidays Craft 5
The felt owl was created by using felt scraps, fabric glue and a bit of embroidery thread. I then raided my stash of vintage fabrics and cut out various circles in 4 and 6-inch diameters.
I also had just a smidge of brown linen fabric left over from this project:
Now the very best felt and yo yo’s available in blog land come from the uber talented Heather Bailey.
Please click on this link for her wonderful tutorial on how to make a yo-yo. I followed the instructions on how to make a yo-yo with a wider center.
It is easy to layer the yo yo’s. You can attach them together when sewing a pin onto the back of the broach. The pins can be purchased at any craft store.
I used a hot glue gun to add the owl and button embellishments.
If you don’t fancy an owl, you can cut out felt shapes that please you: Flowers, pine trees, stars.
The sweet toadstools were just hot glued onto a 6 pack of hair clips I purchased at WalMart. Each set was less than $2 to make.
I slipped the broaches and hair clips into sweet fabric bags that I will show in an upcoming tutorial.

What cute ideas – reminiscent of crafts we did in the late 60's and 70's. Remember when everyone had a mushroom theme in their kitchen??
