How does your lantern glow

One of my favorite blogs is Between Naps On The Porch. I know that many of you share this sentiment. Susan captures nature, creative makeovers, and tablescapes through gorgeous photography. Her images truly are “eye candy”. Susan recently hosted a giveaway that was sponsored by the wonderful Colonial Candle. This amazing giveaway had two lucky winners for one of two lanterns featured below. You can bet your bottom dollar that I entered.

Then life went on as it always does. I became quite busy finishing up a design job, working on the Fashionista’s apartment and allowing myself to wallow in self-pity for a few days when she actually left our nest. So what pulled me out of my wallowing? An email from Susan. I had won the bird lantern. A few days later a package was delivered right to my front door. I can’t even begin to tell you about the care that went into the wrapping of the lantern to ensure that it arrived in pristine condition. I also received a sweet handwritten note from the darling owner congratulating me. Colonial Candle is class A in my book. I decided to use my lantern as a centerpiece for our annual first day of school breakfast.

I began with a white damask cloth covered by a burlap runner. I then added six willow charges I found at Anthropologie. They originally sold for $28.00 EACH and came with a willow cloche. Yours truly scored them for $2.00 and has other plans for the cloches which I’ll show in the future.

Back to school makes me think of little red schoolhouses and shiny apples for the teacher. So I decided to use my favorite red transferware plates. As we were having pancakes and bacon there was no need for a bowl though in hindsight it would have made the place setting more attractive.

How does your lantern glow
Isn’t the bird lantern absolutely gorgeous? I am still pinching myself!

How does your lantern glow
I can’t resist a “bird’s eye view”. Pun intended.

How does your lantern glow
Milk and juice were served in my grandparent’s wedding crystal. Talk about starting the school year out right!

How does your lantern glow
A big thank you to Susan and Colonial Candle for such a tweet surprise!

Laura, I love the lantern that you won from Susan's giveaway. Also like the red transferware and the runner- did you stencil it or was this item purchased? I would love to have a wall hanging similar to this. Soooo expensive, but I was told I should make one…. Now I don't free hand paint and who knows where you could get the font for the stencil. Oh dilemma.
    🙂 Sue

Beautiful lantern, lucky you! And what a great idea to start the school year as if it is a party (you might be surprised but I have 2 kids over here who don' t think like that lol). No kidding I really like that idea of making a party out of it. Often these first days are special events, whether you like them or not, in a human's life.
I didn't have time to come sooner but I still want to tell you that I like what your daughter did at Antropology. My compliments to your daughter! I was there in New York and I loved the place, especially the decorations. Have a lovely day.

Hey! Congrats to U! This is a darling table. I love the burlap, roses and the wicker! Such an unexpected combo. LOVE IT!

Many years ago, I worked at a very exclusive department store here in the valley that sold CC. Even then they had a wonderful rep. Glad to know that a good product and company can withstand the winds of trend and economy!

    Have an awesome long weekend!
