A few of you may remember the front bathroom when the Fashionista lived at home. It was very girly. Since she moved out I decided it was time to sandblast Sweet Boy out of our master bathroom and into his own space. I took color palette cues from his own room to link the spaces together as they are indeed across the hall from one another. A new bathroom for $40.00.
A new bathroom for $40.00
Living my mantra of “low budget/use what you have” I was thankful for bloggy friends. Inspiration struck with Layla’s drop cloth curtains. Taking it up a notch I added a raggamonster garland to the top for a bit of pizazz, color and texture from fabric I had in my stash.
I also found a great picture on clearance at Homegoods. The towels and bath mats were also on clearance at Kmart. They are from Martha Stewart.
I continue to have a hate relationship with this huge dated mirror. This time I tried to disguise it with a netted table topper I bought for $1.98 at Pottery Barn. I show all the details in Wednesday’s post.

Laura for $40 you got a million dollar look. I love the use of the drop cloth for a shower curtain and you put such fabulous detail on it, just gorgeous. I am with you about the mirror. I love how they expand the room (I still have mine too) but they do look a little outdated. I'm just hoping the style comes back. Beautiful room. Hugs, Marty

Love it! I want to know how you made the rag garland for the top of the shower curtain. I also have those mirrors in all 3 of our baths and I have a ducky theme in my little ones bath and I think I will still that net idea and put little rubber ducky in it! TFS!!!

It looks great, Laura! I love that trim you added to the shower curtain.
Have you thought about doing those molding kits that go around those big mirrors? I read a post about it recently too {if anybody knows who I'm talking about, please jump in}. No cutting involved and this blogger was thrilled with how inexpensive it was. I believe she got it at Lowe's.

That bathroom is exactly the layout for our guest bath and it is very hard to decorate properly but you did a great job, honey! I love using dropcloths for big “cover up” jobs sometimes.

I LOVE it! Really nice. One of my favorite parts is the little lantern hanging by the mirror. It gives me some ideas for my K's bathroom cause she wants a beachy/Bahamas look.
Wait until you see my weekend find later when I post!

Laura,
I thought I'd posted but something must have gone awry, so I'll try again.
Your bathroom looks wonderful – I love the little ruffles on your curtains – a finishing touch that isn't overly feminine. And the colour is pretty and calming.
I have those huge mirrors, too, and recently my husband framed them with molding and we painted them black. I'll put up a post tomorrow. I think they really finish off those edges and make the mirrors look more modern.

I love it! I have an 11 yr old son that refuses to take a shower in the bathroom that is his now that his older sister has moved out. Sound familiar? ha ha Maybe I'll try as make-over also!

Great look, Laura!! I remember when you made the rag curtains for Sweet Boy's room. You had trails of it going down your hall! lol!!
I love the new look. The netting looks fantastic over the mirror. I once saw a blogger layer a smaller round mirror over one as large as yours. It really gave it a nice WOW factor!
Great deal on your linens. I am dying to see how you did the wall art!!

Thanks for visiting me! Love your site … and love that rag garland! I had a mirror just like yours in a past house … and I had a friend paint the corners with something that looks like the stenciling we do today … that was 25 years ago!

Hi Laura,
The shower curtain really is amazing–that you took time and patience to do all those little gathers with that type of fabric ASTOUNDS me!
I have seen mirrors finished off with the vinyl moldings, too. They are easy to cut and very lightweight. I think framing those old mirrors out looks really nice. You could also hang an empty frame or a few of them over the mirror. I love that effect!
We are staring down a small bathroom right now ourselves. I will be tossing your ideas about! Thanks for the inspiration!

Your bathroom makeover is fantastic!!! It gives me lots of good useful, cute ideas that I'll be wanting to try out in our own bathrooms, that are both in need of drastic help presently.

Fun post full of creative and inventive ideas, the room looks fabulous with all your special little touches.

Good job. What about using some of the drop cloth to create a frame around the mirror. Drop cloth can be painted very nicely. Miter the corners just like picture frame moulding. Mount to the mirror with clear adhesive. Instant frame on the old mirror. The fabric can also be mounted to foam board. Just an idea with not much cost at all.

The shower curtain looks so great! I love the ragged detail on the top and the gathered trim detail. What a beautiful job.

Great job, and better yet, you used what you had. I think we could all do a little more of that if we tried. I love what you did to the mirror with the netting. I remember those, I used to have those in my other house.

This is funny because your bathroom is the same layout as mine and I hate my mirror too! My mirror had started to discolor at the bottom from what ever over 20 years and one day I walked in and I was like, I got a new mirror?? Honey, did you buy a new mirror for me?? His reply….”Nope, I just turned it upside down.” Now THAT is a mans “free” makeover…lolol

It looks great! The rag garland is a perfect touch.
