In the tiki, tiki, tiki, tiki room

Welcome to the second in a series of seaside themed crafts. I am so happy you loved the vintage boardwalk holiday gift bags. In the tiki, tiki, tiki, tiki room.

This makeover is for anyone who might have a soiree to attend this summer. I always like to take along a gift for the host or hostess. Flowers and wine are always nice, but I truly love giving a gift that can be enjoyed well past the party. I thought this gift was something cool to give that can be enjoyed time and again over the long, hot summer.

Start with a metal pail and a few mini tiki torches. The torches have a citronella scent to help keep bugs at bay.

Print out a few summertime themed images and mod podge them onto the pail along with a few colorful punched out shapes. For extra sparkle apply a second coat of mod podge and cover the surface with large flakes of glitter which is reminiscent of sand.

You can use traditional sand in the pail to support the tiki’s but I loved the oceanic look and feel of this aquarium gravel. The large bag was at Wal Mart for $3.50.

In the tiki, tiki, tiki, tiki room
I have said more than once that I often save things never knowing what I will do with them. Case in point this very well made heavy cardboard box that once housed some darling note cards.

A bit of scrap, glue a, d imagination and voila! A lovely decorative holder for matches.

Here is what the open box looked like:

I will place some long handled matches inside a cellophane pouch and nestle it inside the box.
In the tiki, tiki, tiki, tiki room
I purchased the pail, torches, and gravel at discount stores and had everything else on hand. It is a lovely little gift for under $10.00. It will have your hosts saying they must invite you over again soon.

I love the pail with citronella candles! That would be perfect for the upcoming barbecue my good friend will be having in a couple of weeks to celebrate their housewarming. And it's perfect because I think a lot of these candles are going on sale since it's towards the end of the season. Also, I know I can find a great simple pail at the local dollar store! Thanks SO much for sharing this! Hope you had a great SITs Friday!

Great idea! I think something self made is always saying: I did something extra for you, not just grabbing my wallet, but I thought of you and made you this. That's what makes it special in the first place. Thanks for the idea and have a great weekend!
