I decided to attempt to create a dishtowel as cute as those found in a certain favorite store of mine, but for a bit less money. Ok, A LOT less money. Anthro Inspired Dishtowels.
Anthro Inspired Dishtowels
I began with a stack of towels from the kitchen section at the Dollar Store. You should have seen me searching through an entire wall of towels trying to find perfect colors and construction!
I then went home and grabbed my small remaining stash of vintage 1940’s scraps and created a few yoyos. (If you don’t know how to make a yo-yo, Heather Bailey has a great tutorial.) I also sorted through my vintage trims and selected a few quaint buttons. You certainly could use new fabric, trim and buttons, but this was a great way to use what I had on hand.
After creating the yoyo’s I then took a sweet button and hand sewed each button and yo-yo onto the front of the towel.
I then added a coordinating series of trims onto the hem of the towel with my sewing machine. I think they turned out pretty cute!
For those of you who don’t sew, I have stacks of towels that I am currently working on. I have already added several to my Etsy shop. UPDATE: SOLD OUT!
What have you created from a Dollar Store find?
Laura

These are just absolutely devine. I adore each one of them. You have really outdone yourself this time sweetie.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful idea. I will have to sit down and make a few yo-yos of my own, and see about spiffing up some of my towels.
Have a beautiful day sweetie. Hope you are well. I have been remembering you in prayer. I will see you on Saturday. Country hugs and so much love, Sherry

Okay, I guess you're not going to get much today if your replying to comments. As soon as I read what you wrote I turned right around and told my kids what you said. They were suitably impressed.
You change your banner every month? It took me forever to figure out what I have now. I'm definitely in no rush to figure out a new one. Maybe some day in the distant future.

These are so cute!! I want some! I think I'll have to make some like this after I master the yo-yo (which may take a while 😛 ).

These are so cute! I made hundreds of yo-yo's back when I was in highschool…I was hoping to make a blanket with them, but never got around to it. This would be a perfect project for all of my yo-yo's laying around! Thanks for sharing!
