Happy Saint Patrick’s Day my friends! Here I am with The Wearing Of The Green Crossback Apron.
The Wearing Of The Green Crossback Apron
I’ve recently been trying my hand at drafting my own sewing patterns. This Japanese cross back inspired apron is my first attempt.
The fabric is an old tablecloth I found at an estate sale. It was riddled with holes and rust stains but I was able to cut around them. I just love the soft spring green color.
The front pocket features a wee bit of a favorite antique eyelet trim that has been waiting for the perfect project.
Hands down, the cross back apron is my favorite style to wear.
There are no ties to dig into your neck and waist.
You can see in the photo above that all the seams were bound with vintage seam binding.
I added the decorative stitch for a bit of extra flair.
The lovely roses are from my own garden. They are called “Angel Face” and smell heavenly.

For those who prefer working with a pattern, a close design is Kwik Sew K4301. It is an easy to sew project perfect for beginners.
May you have a wonderful day full of corned beef, soda bread, and Irish jigs and reels.
Are you wearing the green?

Laura, what a lovely way to give a second life to the pretty frayed tablecloth. You are certainly a talented seamstress.
Good luck with your internship. My DD is doing graduate work in museum education, working at couple of historic houses and will need to do a 200 hour internship as a requirement for her program (on top of her regular job!) and so I can certainly understand that you'll be busy for the next few months. Hope you enjoy your work so that it becomes more like play and I look forward to hearing about it, perhaps, through the blog!

This is lovely, Laura! I love the smock aprons. Good coverage and they look so darned cute! And nice work on the pattern… sewing has never been in my wheelhouse so I bow down to you.
Wishing you loads of luck with your internship!

Laura, I love your apron – I wear them all day, every day – this is stylish and easy, love it doesn't bind – well done, ma'am.
May St. Patrick pray on your behalf, today and always. Hugs. ♣

I love this apron. I would not have thought to use a tablecloth. genius. I need to find the pattern. I thought I saved it somewhere but haven't seen it yet in the stash of stuff.
Happy St Patty's day.

Well done, Laura! It is so nice that you were able to use such special things like the eyelet for the pocket and vintage binding. I have a cross over apron, too. Another blogging friend sews beautiful aprons. I have bought several from her but they were the traditional tie ones. Then she posted the cross over one and I ordered it, too. The English refer to them as cover-alls…which is also an appropriate name as it does cover all. 🙂 I love wearing mine when I am cleaning because there is no chance that I am going to ruin any of my clothing with it on and it gives me a feeling of being more free to work.
Your roses are beautiful!

Laura,
Beautiful job! Reusing vintage tablecloths is a brilliant idea. I have several, but one that I love to use as a Christmas tree skirt. The tablecloth has a poorly patched hole which is not visible when I drape the cloth around the base of the tree.
