How To Raise A Patriot

Yesterday morning my favorite cub scout and his fearless den leader awoke at 5:30 am. This is an important step in How To Raise A Patriot.

Eric and Ian

How To Raise A Patriot

Our truck was loaded up with flags and driven to a local cemetery.

How To Raise A Patriot
Each hero was given a flag and a few words of thanks.

How To Raise A Patriot
This is how to raise a patriot. Now pardon me while I go sew back on all of my buttons that have burst off.

How To Raise A Patriot

In memory of those who paid the ultimate price.

Here we honour the soldiers and other people that have given their life for our freedom and the victims of war May 4th and May 5th. I was impressed by your post of last year too, I too have visited several cemetaries in France and I can feel as you do, as my mothers’ uncle never returned home from war (WW I) too and that was still an issue when I was a kid. My great uncle died in 1918 and I was born in1961! Have a nice weekend with thoughts and pic nics!

Hi Laura! It’s true, we have to teach our kids patriotism. Our schools no longer do. It is an attitude that we have to show by example. I’m proud of Sweet Boy too. Your doing a great job!

I hope you have a Great Memorial Weekend! Our flag will be hanging high!

Good for them! What a wonderful thing for them to do. My ds will be a Wolf Scout next year (he’s a Tiger this year) and dh (who is going to be his den leader) is thinking of taking them to a cemetery next year to do this.
We just got home from going to the Lorraine American Military Cemetery in St. Avold, France. They had a huge ceremony for memorial day and I was stunned by how many people were there, American and European. One of the American girl scout troops teamed up with the French scouts (apparently co-ed) to place a US and French flag on every grave before the ceremony today. There are 10,500 graves (all American from WWII) which adds up to 21,000 flags. I was very impressed. It was a nice ceremony and a great way to show ds the toll of war and sacrifice.

Such a good thing for a youngster to do to learn about our country and our fallen heroes. I’d be awfully proud too.

So bittersweet, so touching. Your Sweet Little Boy honoring and caring for the veterans while, while he will enjoy his freedom thanks to their sacrifices… I'm getting a tear in my eye….
