Saturday Smiles Bits of Bliss Independence Edition

It is almost the fourth of July. Welcome to Saturday Smiles Bits of Bliss Independence Edition!

I loved this floral arrangement that used a vintage George Washington pipe tobacco can. I found quite a few cans on eBay in case you love it too.

I have a fondness for rooms decorated in red, white and blue. Do you?

If you have a notion that this color palette can’t be elegant I bring you this lovely dining room complete with hand-painted de Gournay Earlham wallpaper in cobalt-blue.

In a New York apartment, de Gournay's hand-painted cobalt-blue Earlham wallpaper makes a big impression in the dining room. Yet, the crisp white and apple red decor hold their own against this electric hue, balancing the bold look.

Patriotic Crafts

As far as specifically themed décor I still love this sweet flag I found a few years ago HERE.  4th of July decor - ribbon and lace American flag. Perfect for above my console table in front entry way.

It doesn’t appear that the Gilded Girls are making the flags anymore. But I have enough vintage lace and trim I could be very inspired to create a similar neutral flag design.

I also have some bandanas just sitting in a drawer. They make excellent napkins, pillow covers, and when grouped together can form a tablecloth or a happy banner.

Meals With Patriotic Pizzazz

Do you need inspiration for a patriotic meal? Can I say oh my yum!!!! You can get the recipe for the pulled pork HERE.

I’m going to try my hand at some firecracker dogs.

I have delicious summer berries on the brain and this salad combines some unexpected flavors I can’t wait to try. The recipe can be found HERE.

Have a star-spangled day!

I need to finish my coffee. For a minute I thought I'd read that bananas make excellent napkins. I do love the cottage with the quilt on the ceiling. So darling. I hate that you couldn't find the original artist that made that flag. I've seen it floating around Pinterest.
I love your patriotic inspiration. I've had so much fun with the red, white and blue this year.

The flag was done a few years ago by the ladies of A Gilded Life. They are pretty amazing. http://agildedlife.com/pages/about-us

We celebrated our Canada Day on July 1st and enjoyed a mid week break.
I am sure what ever you do to celebrate will be beautifully done and very patriotic.
    Happy July 4th weekend! 🙂

I do love all the red white and blue decor! It's such a crisp look. And the ribbon flag is precious! and so clever!
Hope you had a wonderful, safe 4th, Laura. I'm sure the house was a tad quiet with your son at camp.;)

    Dear Laura,

Happy Fourth! It was especially great to see your lovely little flag properly displayed with the union at the left. Good girl!

Those are all terrific ideas! We use a combination of inexpensive red and white check (ikea) and white with blue stripe (amazon) dishtowels for summer napkins, and white flowers with flags in blue and white porcelain containers. Table top is really our only patriotic display, other than the porch flag, but I really love that living room photo with the pillow mix – hmmmmm, there’s still time before the 4th for a little sewing, maybe? Have a great holiday!

There are some really neat things here, Laura. I had a red/white/blue house when we lived on Lake Michigan. Loved it but the new owners bought the house fully furnished-right down to the dishes!-so I opted to go another way with the next house.

I hope you have a wonderful Sunday and a great 4th of July. xo Diana

I for one am smitten with red, white, and blue. Love these inspiration photos! Those lace flags are gorgeous! I made one a few years ago, but not as fancy as those. Hope you had a wonderful 4th! Thanks for sharing with SYC. Oh, and I love that tin too!!
    hugs,
