A Dress For Late Fall

Hello, sweet friends! It has been a joy to once again sew for myself after a two-year hiatus. I loved creating A Dress For Late Fall. I think I can even wear it through the winter if I add a cardigan.

A Dress For Late Fall

Simplicity S9542

I had picked up this pattern at one of Joann’s 99-cent sales. (I will really miss that.)

If you sew View B, without the insertion lace, I would classify this as an intermediate-level pattern. If you opt to add all the insertion lace,  shown in View A, this addition does require a more intermediate to advanced skill level.Simplicity S9542

The vintage fabric was found at an estate sale. The information on the selvage edge reads: Concord Fabrics Inc. Designed by the Kesslers. 25th Anniversary special edition Country Florals. I thought the black background with autumnal purples, oranges and greens was perfect for late fall. The purple buttons were a vintage find as well.

You can somewhat see the pintucks that were sewn on the bodice.

Due to time constraints and minimal lace I opted to only add the insertion lace detail to the sleeves.

I love the fit of the dress. It is very comfortable to wear.

The skirt features wide knife pleats that are more prominent when the dress is in motion.

I will probably make this pattern again using the cap sleeve option for a summer frock.

I love the style of your dress & it fits you so well! My current project is Black Snail #0916 Day Skirt in a dark green in hopes of attending the Green Tea at the Aboretum in the spring. Keeping my fingers crossed!

      Hi Susan,
I didn’t know the D/FW Guild had selected a color. I adore green and have quite a bit in the way of costumes. Can’t wait to see your creation!

One of the things, Laura, that I admire about wearing vintage style clothing is that the person wearing it looks not only classy, but with individuality. No one would probably realize that this dress didn’t come from Nordstrom’s or some place like that, it just looks higher end. It is higher end. That dress is literally made for YOU!

You always say the nicest things that fill my heart with joy.
      Hugs,
      Laura
