Hello sweet friends! Today I am joining my friend Cindy of County Road 407 for her Lifestyle of Love hop. You are going to love this month’s theme that she has selected. I also wanted to share a little bit extra. So let’s get to Summer Baskets And New Flooring Oh My!
If you’ve arrived here from Common Ground let me say that I am so glad that you are here! Debra’s seasonal basket post was so inspiring.
Friends I love a good basket! I started looking around Storybook Cottage and I found that I use various baskets in every single room in my house. Some baskets store dogs toys, others blankets. I use pretty baskets with a liner as waste bins.
But some of my favorite summertime baskets are currently on display in the living room.
Of course if I start showing you the photos of my living room you will quickly see that after three VERY LONG months, we finally have our foundation repaired and new flooring installed.
Gracie the doxie loves it!
How To Become A Basket Case
Here’s a quick recap: our older home had been knocked around a bit by a tornado and sits on clay soil. The foundation needed some help. Once that was done there were some plumbing issues that needed repair. Between leaks and buckling the old flooring needed to be replaced.
However, a previous flooring DIY (not done by us) revealed that the flooring has been epoxyied/super glued directly to the home’s cement foundation.
Trying to get the old boards up was a unwelcome challenge that lasted for weeks.
You should have seen Storybook Cottage! The three rooms that needed to be redone had been emptied out and the contents were placed in other rooms in the house. It was like furniture Jenga trying to get into some of the spaces.
Finally between myself, Mr. Decor, and our fabulous worker, Jose, we got the old flooring up. You will be happy to know that we are big believers in leaving things in even better shape than how we found them.
So the floor was leveled:
Then a subfloor (shown under the jagged edge) was laid down and topped with the new flooring!
Summer Baskets And New Flooring Oh My!
In the newly floored entry I used a basket tray to corral a sea horse and other summer decor.
Baskets add such lovely texture to any vignette.
Another basket tray is used on the coffee table. It features some of our favorite shells collected from all over the world.
You can catch a glimpse of some very special baskets that are stored on the left of the hearth.
In the warm summer months I like to place other things in the space that is traditionally meant as fireplace log storage.
This is Mr. Decor’s collection of handmade Panamanian baskets. Some of you may recall that he was born and raised in Panama. I like to incorporate his heritage into our home.
Let’s head over into the dining area.
You can see how I am using a basket as a vase for hydrangea’s. Simply place a watertight container inside the basket and fill it with flowers!
I hope you have enjoyed this post.
I’ll be back on Friday,
Laura

While it is a lot of work to do renovations, it is always so satisfying afterwards to see the changes and improvements. Your new floors look so nice and everything is so fresh and appealing to make it perfect for the summer months. Hope you are healing up well and able to enjoy the rest of the summer!

Your new floors look great! I can’t imagine how difficult it must have been getting that old floor removed. And your baskets are beautiful! Love the way you styled all of them.

While reading the many blogs on baskets I looked around our family room and counted 11 baskets used for everything from holding pibecones, blankets, a variety of different sized orbs to one with a seasonal summer vignette on the coffee table. Everyone in here has a use and I love them all. Every room in our house and the front porch and deck have a variety of baskets. I guess I have a bad case of basket mania!!

Love the way your floors came together, Laura!.They look so good.! The summer inspired basket and tray you created are so pretty too. They make me want to display all the shells we’ve collected from the beach over the years. Sending you hugs for a happy and healthy summer season, CoCo

Unbelievable, Laura, and it looks fantastic. At long last and well worth the angst, I’d say (maybe not the timing!). Love the baskets and wicker look too. It’s very summery and how lovely is that!

Congratulations on the flooring nightmare finally being over! This reminded me of our bathroom reno taking 11 weeks. It’s very trying, and I could also relate to your comment of jenga. I remember having our bathtub in our master closet. I love esp Eric’s heritage baskets, and what a great way to display them!
Hopefully you’re healing nicely, too, from your recent surgery.

Hi Laura, You did such a brilliant job tying the new floors in with the tones of the fireplace, rug, etc. I’ve got issues with this house’s foundation and the need to have them releveled. in the living room. I can’t even think about it right now. I’m glad it is over for you both. Your house always looks fantastic. I have antique baskets on top of my kitchen cabinets. I normally don’t like things on the top of cabinets but in this case it works by seemingly raising the height since they are the same color as the oak cabinets.

wow Laura, your new flooring is fabulous. LOVE the color!!! I’m so glad you’re through all that now. Hope you’ll be able to rest and relax a bit. Your basket displays are gorgeous. Your home looks so light and bright with the new floors!!

I want to be a basket case! 😉 I can’t imagine being in such disarray for 3 months! Especially in the midst of all the other troubles! Everything looks great though and I love the coastal vibe but my fave has to be the baskets inside the log cubby.
Thank you for joining us. I know with a wedding, moving Ian, the foundation, your health and so many other things, you’ve had quite the year. But you are such an amazing lady. Always positive and a glory to God. Big hugs!
