Hello, dear friends! Today I will be putting together some last minute touches for Sweet Guy’s 16th birthday which is tomorrow. While there are TONS of ideas for Sweet 16 parties for girls it was such a challenge to come up with a fun and festive theme for a boy. I thought you might enjoy the favorite movie night party ideas I collected. They could work for a housewarming party, couples bridal shower or even just a happy neighborhood get together.
Favorite Movie Party Ideas
I’ve broken down the ideas into 5 sections.
- The Invitation
- Free Printables
- Movie Themed Decor
- Inspired Movie Theater Food
- Film Activites
The Invitation
(Click on each image to be taken to the original site.)
I thought this invitation was so clever and cute.
Or you can print this image out and add your information in Word Perfect. (Left click to save.)
For my guy, this cinema-themed invite was just the ticket. It is easy to personalize the image. I did it in PicMonkey.
Free Printables
I loved this set of printables.
Sweet Guy wanted a color palette of black, yellow and red so this set was the perfect fit.
If you plan on having a photo booth these printable props are tops!
Movie Themed Decor
How cute and simple is this paper chain garland made from paper ticket rolls? Another great idea for tickets is a photo booth background you can see HERE.
Much of movie-themed decor can be centered around food. I found the exact same baskets at the Dollar Store.
This is such a cute popcorn themed banner. Just print out, use a hole punch on each corner and add ribbon or twine to hang.
You can display your snacks on a ticket enhanced tiered tray.
Plain red wrapping paper on a roll can be transformed into a red carpet. Top with cut-out metallic stars.
Inspired Movie Theater Food
We will be serving standard movie theater food fare at our party. Of course, a popcorn bar is a must!
Jumping off on that idea you can also have a nacho bar…
…or a hot dog bar.
This candy bar setup is so cute! I will be creating something similar.
Doesn’t this caramel popcorn cupcake look so delicious?
You could wrap them in this printable liner….
Don’t forget the drinks!
Film Inspired Activities
A good portion of the evening will be spent watching a film or two. You can customize your film selections to what you are celebrating. I found the classic Sixteen Candles at Target for $5.00. Long Duk Dong Forever!
Movie trivia games are always a blast too. You can create a theme for any age group.
The treasure hunt below inspired me to create a neighborhood-wide scavenger hunt. The party attendees will be given clues and walk to 16 different houses in our neighborhood. Upon knocking on the door they will be asked a film-related question by the homeowner. If they are successful in their answer they will be rewarded with a prize. The fun part is that my neighbors are REALLY excited to be participating. (They’ve been promised treats too. 🙂
I’ll be sharing all the shenanigans on Instagram and will post our movie inspired party next week.
Tell me, what was YOUR favorite movie when you were 16?

Oh my goodness. I love the idea and all the decorations are so fantastic. Time goes by too fast for our kids. My grandkids are adults now and I wonder where did the time go. Our oldest grandson just enlisted in the Army this month.

Lots of really fun things here! That ticket garland would be cute for a movie-themed holiday tree, too. Thanks for the links and the printables!
