Transforming A Curbside Patio Set

Welcome to the May Pinterest Challenge a patriotic vignette. This monthly event is hosted by Cindy of County Road 407. For May I am sharing Transforming A Curbside Patio Set.

If you are coming over from StoneGable  may I say “Welcome!” Yvonne always has the best home decor ideas.

This month’s charming inspirational image comes from a sweet front porch scene created by Home Is Where The Boat Is.

Inspirational Elements

  • A white  patio chair and table
  • Patriotic pillows
  • Old fashioned watering can
  • Flags
  • Flowers

I did not have any white outdoor furniture and was delighted when I spied a vintage iron patio bistro set out on my neighbor’s curb on garbage day.

Patio Set

The round seat cushions were completed rotted and the chairs had quite a bit of rust.

Patio Set

My hero removed a good portion of the rust with a wire brush attachment on his handheld drill. Afterwards, I gave the set a good cleaning and painting.  Wooden rounds from the home improvement store made a great seat and top replacement for less than $30.

Patio Set

The set will be moving on to our dear daughters home in Nashville.

Transforming A Curbside Patio Set

The wee pillows were found at Kohl’s and the Yankee Doodle Dandy of a centerpiece came from Hobby Lobby.

Pinterest Challenge Table

Mr. Decor made the American flag from old fencing leftover when it was replaced.

Pinterest Challenge Table

Our garden has truly put on a lovely show this season. All of the flowers featured, except the baby’s breath, were grown at Storybook Cottage.

Lilies

TIP: Cut off the center stamens of lilies when creating an arrangement. This will prevent the pollen from dropping onto and staining your linens.

Pinterest Challenge Table

For the place settings, I used our antique red transferware and the blue ticking napkins I made back in 2010.

Our Liberty Bell

I don’t think I have ever shared this next sweet feature before on DTA. Right by our back door is an antique school bell.

Liberty bell

The bell is fully functional. I made the bunting way back in 2010.

Patriotic Pups

This post was brought to you by my two sweet doxie helpers, Rudi and Gracie. Rudi is now 17 years old but loves the warm weather.

Don’t you love having your own handyman on staff? I know I do. The flag he made from the fence is great. Love the bistro set you repurposed and I’m sure your daughter will enjoy your work.

We have two doxies too. Reeses and Peanut they are 8 brother and sister. Got them 10 weeks old. Doxies are the best and do love sunbathing. Yours are cuties.

    Enjoy your day

I love your cute bunting, Laura! And I think we were thinking alike getting our dogs in on the patriotic scene;) I love your red transferware; so fun to use it for the summer and red, white and blue instead of just winter holidays…now you’ll have me hunting down some! Great trash to treasure score; am sure your daughter will love it!

I think I need to stalk your neighborhood on trash day! What a great find. Love how it turned out and I bet Lou will love it! If I had a small apartment, that’s exactly the kind of table I’d want in my kitchen. 🙂 Your patriotic touches and interpretation are spot on. Love it all! And that old school bell… waaaay cute!

I’m glad you were able to use this sweet patio set before it heads onto your daughter’s home, Laura! You and your hero did a great job making it new and loved again. Beautiful table decor and the pups sure look good!!! Love the repurposed fence pickets flag!!! Thanks for the tip on removing the lily’s stamens.

    Happy almost-summer hugs,
    Barb 🙂

Great vignette, Laura! I really appreciate all of the personal touches of things you’ve sewn, painted, repurposed, etc. I love nothing more than seeing something brought back to life with some creativity and elbow grease. The school bell is precious with your added bunting. Also, that’s a great tip about the stamens. I had never thought of that!

Your daughter is going to be delighted with her new patio set. What a great find and you and your husband did a wonderful job of fixing it up.

I love the flag wall hanging that you husband made and also your bell. My mom recently passed along the bell that she had at her home where I grew up for 40+ years to my cousin. He was delighted to get it and she also gave him a wagon wheel to display in front of it.

I enjoyed seeing your latest project and the patriotic way that you set the table.

Laura, Sweet Shark had that exact same table when we married. I had a new top made and then made a mosaic top for it. It’s on our patio right now. We just found a new table at an estate sale last weekend. If you want another table , mine is yours. I think you did a great job of making a sweet area for a lovely patriotic meal. Love the sweet centerpiece.
