ABC Carpet and Home

888 Broadway New York, NY 10003

A must-see destination for all lovers of decor and home accessories is ABC Carpet and Home. It is six floors of absolute design inspiration.

ABC Carpet and Home

The showroom has a certain warehouse aesthetic, which I loved. It is categorized into sections. I spent the most time on the fourth floor which was filled with European antiques.

ABC Carpet and Home Antiques

There is also plenty of new and luxurious merchandise to be had. The image below is from the fantastic Timothy Oulton showroom area. It made me miss my Sweet Guy and Mr. Decor as it felt very much like their taste.

Times Square

Times Square Visitors Center 1560 Broadway, New York, New York City, NY 10036-1537

From ABC we made our way to Times Square so that the Fashionista could take a few requisite tourist photos. It was fun to look at the marquees of all the current Broadway shows and plays. We also popped into a local deli (that I sadly do not have the name for) and enjoyed a delicious sandwich and pickle for lunch.

Hello Dolly on Broadway

Now, this next section may shock you, the Fashionista and I split up!
She wanted to visit the American Museum of Natural History, which I had been to on a previous visit. I really wanted to see the Frick Collection. I let her go because she had shown me that she had a good command of the subway and it was the middle of the day. Not to mention she is well into her 20’s. So we set up a time and place to meet at 5 pm and bid one another adieu.

American Museum of Natural History

Central Park West & 79th St, New York, NY 10024

I cannot say enough great things about the American Museum of Natural History. It’s probably because I have personally talked it up so much in the past that the Fashionista really wanted to go. She had an incredible time and just could not get over the amazing displays. She sent me this lion image and said she was thinking of me. (I am a Leo. 😉

It truly is a fantastic museum for everyone of all ages.

American Museum of Natural History

The Frick Collection

1 E 70th St, New York, NY 10021

Over the years friends and family members who know me well have told me that I needed to visit The Frick Collection. As I walked up to this former Gilded Age mansion, turned museum, I knew that they were right.

The Frick Collection

I could probably write an entire post just on this museum alone as it is THAT GOOD.

In a nutshell, the mansion houses the amazing art and furniture collection of industrialist Henry Clay Frick. It contains an impressive amount of old world master paintings and major European artists as well as truly superb pieces of antique furniture.

How it differs from other museums is that, in many areas, it is still set up as Mr. Frick enjoyed it. There are no velvet ropes to separate you from the beauty.  For this reason, children under 10 are not allowed in the museum.

This is the Boucher Room which contains artwork by French Rococo painter François Boucher.

The Frick Boucher Room

The dining room which contains many amazing pieces of art created by Thomas Gainsborough, an English portrait and landscape painter.

The Frick Dining Room

My favorite room was probably the Drawing Room. The boiseries, or painted wall panels, were done by French artist Jean-Honoré Fragonard, who is my favorite French Rococo painter.

The Frick Interiors

Canal Street

Lower Manhattan, New York City, running from East Broadway between Essex and Jefferson Streets in the east, to West Street between Watts and Spring Streets in the west.

The Fashionista and I met up on Canal Street so that we could visit the Glossier Showroom. But it should be mentioned that you can find some amazing deals on purses, sunglasses and other accessories throughout several areas on Canal Street.

Glossier Showroom

123 Lafayette St, New York, NY 10013

Glossier is a fairly new makeup line that has quickly reached cult status even though it has, until now, only been available for purchase online. The Fashionista is a fan. I must say it was fun touring their first retail site which is housed in a gorgeous penthouse showroom. I ended up buying a tube of Balm Dotcom in rose.

De Nico (dinner)

164 Mulberry St, New York, NY 10013

We next walked over to Little Italy in search of great pasta. We found it at Da Nico Ristorante. It offers a very authentic Italian atmosphere. Even our waiter was a handsome Italian with a charming accent. Sitting in the garden I had the Fusilli alla Boscaiola which consisted of spiral pasta, arugula, black olives, fresh tomatoes, Buffalo mozzarella, and sweet basil. The Fashionista opted for the Spaghetti Alla Carbonara with gluten-free pasta, prosciutto, pancetta, onions, egg yolks and pecorino cheese.

It was truly delightful and we cleaned our plates.

    LOVE your dress!

Hey…is Bette Midler doing “Hello, Dolly!” now? The photo looks aged.

I love the Frick. I love it because it is doable (and by a third day, the feet are starting to wane a bit!). I’d do the split too..

Did you catch any Broadway shows or just check the titles? I’m reading backwards as I catch up after Quebec so maybe it’s to come!
