ORC Week 2 Tile Floors for the Old Palm Beach Bathroom

I cannot believe it is already week two of the ORC Week 2 Tile Floors for the Old Palm Beach Bathroom

ORC Week 2 Tile Floors for the Old Palm Beach Bathroom

Whenever you are redesigning a space it is generally best, to begin with, whatever demolition and construction need to happen. We knew that we would be updating the 30-year-old linoleum flooring so this needed to happen first.

ORC Week 2 Tile Floors for the Old Palm Beach Bathroom

If I’ve said it once I will say it a million times more…thank goodness for Mr. Décor. He is an amazing handyman. First, the dated brass and frosted glass doors were taken off the bathtub/shower. He did this because in order to correctly tile the floor the toilet needed to come up. The shower was the perfect place to store it.

He also was game to try and install this tile mosaic flooring I found at the Home Depot. We bought a little less than a case. As they graciously offer a 10 % military discount we were able to buy the tile, thin set, and grouting for around $60.

Installing Mosaic Tile

Since Mr. Décor had never installed mosaic tile before it was a bit of challenge. The thinset came up between the tiles and he had to spend quite a bit of time scraping the excess out with a screwdriver.

Then there was the grouting and installing new baseboards to finish the new flooring. I was really pleased with Mr. Décor’s handiwork. It is such an improvement. Although he has asked to not be asked to install a mosaic ever again.

Next, it’s time to take down that dreaded cabinet and scrape off that jungle wallpaper border.

Looks beautiful! The original floors in there would be a vast improvement over what we have in our bathrooms (stained linoleum), but again, it doesn't pay for us to do major updates at our house, if only for our own enjoyment, as house values just keep falling in the town where we live, so I tend to overlook a lot in our home. I was just telling Jim that we seriously need to clean the stained linoleum in our mud room/laundry room/cat bathroom pass way to the garage before Dad's 90th Birthday party. I'm just really bad about keeping up with cleaning and house updates, but I always enjoy seeing what you're working on. 🙂
