This is currently the view from our back door featuring a very dirty patio chandelier that hangs above our patio table. I had set out to do a bit of spring cleaning earlier in the week and found a little something that said it would have to wait. Hummingbird Happiness.
Hummingbird Happiness
The following images feature a different angle taken through the glass doors. The quality is a bit poor, but I know you’ll forgive me as you probably wouldn’t want to disturb such a wee mother either.
Yes, a hummingbird has created the tiniest nest imaginable on top of our chandelier. (My kind of bird!) Sweet Boy has christened her “Lil’ Mama”.
The back door has become off limits for the next 40 days as we want Lilβ Mama to feel secure. She doesnβt seem to mind when I open the door a crack and let Rudi the doxie out. (Maybe because he is so low to the ground~smile.) But, she does panic if we try to step outside. Luckily, we have access to the backyard via the garage that we can use.

How blessed you and your family are to have such a tiny guest. I’ve never seen a humingbird nest in person. This will be fascinating to follow through your posts. Enjoy your break – it is well deserved.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving such sweet words. How lucky to have a hummer right by the house. I am intending that I have this happen for me too this Spring. The nest looks like it might be made of feathers? Wonder how they make their nests?>~ ~Ahrisha~ ~

I love the new look to your blog and that’s amazing about the Hummingbird — First of all, Hummingbirds don’t visit our area of the country until much, much later — in late May or June. And secondly, I’ve never seen them build a nest so close to the house, in fact, I’ve never even seen them in a nest. They flit about near the feeder but they’re always very nervous and never come too close to us. Hope you’re having a marvelous break! π

I like your chandelier, but the humming bird is the sweetest thing. I’m with you on this. It will be such a joy watching the progress of this wee mother.>>Have a great day and Happy Spring!>>Darlene

My goodness, she is BEAUTIFUL! You have got yourself a gift there, lady. Seeing that little nest would be a wonderful way to start the day. A few years ago, a momma robin set up her nest in our basketball goal, which is outside my bathroom window. For weeks, every morning I would get up in the morning excited to see her. I loved watching her feed the babies, and eventually they all safely left the nest. I was kind of sad to know they were gone, but such a blessing to see those little ones grow.

I have a porch candolier over my bistro table. When I first put it up, I used tapers. What a mistake! The candles melted down all over the wrought iron and even onto the table. Then I went out and purchased the votive cups. That worked a lot better. I love the look of candlelight in a warm summer evening.

Laura,>Thank you so much for posting this. We look forward to the hummingbirds in late Apr. in Ohio. I have seen the nests but only after our shrubs lose their leaves in the fall. We have actually held these amazing creatures! They get into our garage and become so exhausted trying to get out, that we have to pick them up and help them drink out of the feeder until they get their energy back and they fly away.>I’ll be watching for updates!>Mitz

How thoughtful you are of the little mama hummingbird’s feelings of security. My seven year old grandson would very much approve. He doesn’t like to see a single living thing in any kind of distress. He cried unconsolably when his mother had to call the bug man because of cockroaches.

Love these photos. The bird’s nest is especially sweet!

I have over 100 photos on my iPhone that the phone took itself, and I don't want to have to go through each and every one and email it to my computer. Is there an easier way to transfer them? I need to restore my phone because it's acting up, but I don't want to lose all the pictures on it.
