Christmas Home Tour 2016 Part I

Welcome to the 2016 Christmas Home Tour part I. If you are coming over from Sarah’s stunning home at Life on Virginia Street welcome to Decor To Adore!

This is the third year I have participated in the home tours hosted by my dear friend Marty of A Stroll Thru Life. Each year I try to design a fresh look by using existing Christmas décor paired with new DIYs.

This year I decided to create a vintage pastel pink and aqua theme in the formal living spaces at Storybook Cottage.

The entry at Storybook Cottage is small and sweet.

I made the vintage Shiny Brite wreath a few years ago. It moves to a new location every year.

I am totally smitten with this gold glitter vintage Santa. He joins the Putz houses I’ve made over the years.

The Dining Area

I spent several hours creating this felt “Weiner Wonderland” table runner.

It brings a smile to everyone who sees it.

The crystal candlestick and aqua candles add an elegant touch.

I was waiting for a dachshund to appear! I had one for 17 wonderful years and it is still my favorite breed. Right now I have a rescue who is part chihuahua, part dachsie and part jack russell. Regarding your shiny-brite wreath, I collect shiny-brites too and have quite a few that are badly scatched or missing patches of paint. Did you use glue to attach them permanently to your wreath or wire?

    December 5, 2016 at 2:19 pm

Hi MEM I hope you check back here. Since you are listed as a “no reply blogger” I have no way of contacting you. 🙁
I used a styrofoam wreath base and a hot glue gun. The styrofoam actually “melts” a bit when the hot glue is applied and creats a small hole that the top of the ornament then securely attaches into with the glue.
Once the wreath was finished I then wired it to the white fir wreath.

Yes, we love our doxies here at Storybook Cottage. We also have a short haired red. Both
boys will be featured in Wednesdays post. 🙂 They truly are a wonderful breed.

Well, this pastel blue and felt dachshunds and pink and white and teal is just Christmas heaven. I don't know where you find the time to get this all done. There aren't enough hours in the day. I know you said some of these treasures you made other years, but my gosh the work (albeit delightful, creative work) involved. You are Martha Stewart. Are you hiding a staff of eight back there somewhere? Everything is so delightful. I am in awe. ~Ginene

Laura, it's a treat to see Storybook Cottage dressed for the holidays. I admire that you make these lovely decorations for your home. I was a child of the 50s, and felt and sequin stockings and tree skirts were the fashion. I still have my pink Christmas stocking that my aunt made for me when I was a small child. These little works of art are heirlooms, and I know your tree skirt and table runner will become family heirlooms too. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home.

Oh Laura, the table runner and tree skirt are fabulous! They remind me of the skirt my mom is wearing in the photo on a blog post or two ago! The Christmas Skirt. A tradition.

Well, your blog has never been better named. Your Decor to Adore is adorable. I love the pastel — it looks and works so well in your home. The tree is dazzling and I love the table and the drinks station. Like you, you have a love for the bottlebrush tinsel trees. I love every single detail here and just wish I could pop over for a sip of something and savor your wonderful decorations in person!
