There are several ways to celebrate the advent season.
Many people have a Jesse tree.
Others may have a candy or gift calendar…
…or participate in family activities or daily readings.
A traditional weekly advent wreath includes:
First Sunday in Advent ~ Candle Color: Purple, Theme: Hope
Second Sunday in Advent ~ Color: Purple, Theme: Love
Third Sunday in Advent ~ Candle Color: Purple or pink, Theme: Joy
Fourth Sunday in Advent ~ Candle Color: Purple, Theme: Peace
Christmas Day ~ Center Candle Color: White, Theme: Christmas
Tonight the first candle, also known as the Prophecy or Hope candle, will be lit.

Such a beautiful tradition and post! Years ago my children attended an Episcopal school and the advent was connected with the nativity set. We were given a book of prayers and each day we set out another figure and said the prayer that corresponded. Of course the climax was putting Baby Jesus in His manger on Christmas Eve. A few times Baby Jesus would go missing, only to be found in the pocket of a little. Those are sweet memories for me.

Such a wonderful post and a good reminder to me what the season is all about. I was so ready for a huge pity party, forgetting we are celebrating the birth of Christ. You have given me a wonderful gift.

While we didn't do Advent candles at home, we did enjoy the ceremony every Sunday at church and I always had candles on our supper table every evening through the holidays as a reminder. It is such so special to watch the children as the candles are lit. They are often very excited and figity but when the minister would start to light the candles and explain the reason we do this each year, they would all calm down and listen. Just magical!

I can not believe that Advent is really here! I've always loved the tradition of lighting the candles in church every Sunday. Now we have an Advent wreath at home since our first married Christmas together, 20 years this week. Thanks for sharing and for the loveloy photos! xoKathleen

Oh Sweet Jesus…a beautiful time of year to remember and worship. Christmas is such a blessed event. For there is no name higher than the Lord Jesus's. Divine Deity. Wonderful that it is through Him we can have salvation.
